Adults are humans or animals which have attained their maximum development. The term adult is applied to human beings to refer to moral and social concepts. Legal adults are those who has reached the age of adulthood and is considered independent, self sufficient as well as responsible. A legal adult can be referred to as a major. The average age at which you can attain legal adulthood is 18, however, definitions can differ based on laws, countries and the level of development in psychological terms.

Adulthood refers to the period that an individual has reached maturation in both physical and mental development. Many people believe that the age of adulthood is attained when you are 20 or older. It is generally believed that middle age begins around 40 years old. It is followed by a period of about 60. The three phases of adulthood are early adulthood (from mid-30s to late-60s) mid-adulthood between mid-30s until late-60s and then later adulthood, (mid-60s until the time of death). Physical maturation has been completed at the point we are in our early adulthood years (20-40s) but height and weight might rise a bit. In early adulthood our physical abilities are at their highest levels. This includes muscle strength and reaction time.
