Katarina Witt started skating at the age of five. She was only five when her talents became apparent, and then in Karl-Marx-Stadt she was accepted into a school specifically for kids with sporting talents. She was introduced to Jutta Muller in this school. Witt had her first breakthrough year in 1982 after she came second in the World Championships held in Copenhagen. The elegance and grace of Witt captured the eyes of everyone and she has been a dominant figure skater ever since. Olympic triumph Katarina Wit was awarded gold medals in the women's ice skaters at the Sarajevo Winter Games 1984 after a highly competitive and intense contest. Four years later, that she was able to win an even more tighter race. In fact, she did not win the free skating contest but won gold based on performances during the compulsory short and figure programme. Witt became the very first repeat winner in women's figure skating since Sonja Henie. Hall of Fame Witt had many successes as an acting career, but she returned to her sports for competition at the Lillehammer Winter Games of 1994. The team finished seventh, but she wowed the crowd even though she didn't win an award. Witt's admission into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame was held in 1995.
